Just for Bill

Our first squatter. Joey paid ten cents to enter. It is not the worst toilet we have seen. I expect that they will get worse. We want to commemorate this image of our first squat toilet to Bill S.

Allow me to explain (and defend myself)...

The challenge I posed to Joey ( - I figured this was more a task for Joey than Erin - ) was "Photograph the best and worst toilets in the world". It's not weird, honestly....Consider this, of all the variance in world's cultures, there are several universals: Eating, Sleeping, and Eliminating.

Aside from meeting people of the world, eating is why I love travel - which consequently means, well ... you know, eliminating. Therefore, I reason that experiencing the world's bathrooms are just as worthy a travel experience as seeing the world's art, iconography, or nature. Here's to the 3N's of the world!

PS - I've seen worse far worse facilities in Butte, MT. And you still have to find the best in the world.

Sorry to confuse the issue. I saw this toilet, and it scared me into jump starting the "worst toilet" search. Technically, this one is a pretty tame sqatter.

Most of the facilities we've come across have been ok - even when they are dirty. I've heard that India can have some of the worst potties, but we'll see when we get there.

squatting is good for circulation. trust me, you're better off (and, you don't have to worry about it leaking into your basement. double bonus!)

PS Bill,
Seeing as Butte, MT is home to one of the worst superfund sites in the known universe, terrible 'facilities' are completely in line with the ethic of the place. Poetically, I wouldn't want it any other way.
PSS
I still don't own a bed.

I have successfully navigated my first squat toilet experience. It was not as bad as I thought it would be but I am still happy to be staying in a place with western toilets.
Erica, why did you buy a computer before a bed? Priorities?

One can sleep on the couch or the floor. Online access is a bit more comfortable. Also I have excellent lent-bed karma.
